This weekend, Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan will be taking his state into Phase 4 of easing COVID-19 restrictions, but the Premier has emphasised that plans to reopen the WA borders on 8 August will now be delayed following Victoria’s rise in the number of COVID-19 outbreaks in the past week.
While WA residents can look forward to a relaxation of restrictions, Victoria’s Premier, Daniel Andrews, has announced a roll back of some restrictions, in order to better manage the spike in new COVID-19 cases in his state.
From Saturday, limits on numbers at gatherings in WA will be replaced by the two-square-metre rule, and licensed premises, cafes and restaurants will be able to serve patrons without the requirement for them to be seated.
“That means from Saturday, we can all enjoy a drink standing up at the bar,” Mr McGowan said.
Gaming floors in casinos will be reopened, with every second poker machine turned off, and public transport will return to normal.
Concerns about growing community transmission has prompted the roll back of some restrictions in Victoria – the limit on visitor numbers inside homes has reverted to five people, and outdoor gatherings to 10 people.
