As Greater Sydney battles the growing number of community transmissions of the Delta strain, new restrictions have been put in place and an indefinite lockdown period looms until those numbers diminish.
While most states already have border restrictions in place for people from Greater Sydney, the Victorian government has now gone one step further, announcing a hard border with the whole of NSW and the ACT. The ACT has no active cases of community transmission of COVID-19, however, Victoria has implemented the measure because of the territory’s close proximity to both NSW and Victoria.
From 11:59pm AEST last night (Sunday 11 July 2021), Victoria has declared all of NSW and the ACT a red zone, meaning anyone in NSW and ACT is unable to enter Victoria. Victorian residents can return to their home state on a red zone permit for 14 days of quarantine, along with people who have obtained exemptions and cross-border residents.
