South Australians are now being actively encouraged to get out and about within their state to give a much-needed tourism boost to the state, and now campers and caravanners are being welcomed back to Wilpena Pound Resort in the heart of the Flinders Ranges.
The region is a great road trip destination, and Wilpena Pound’s natural attractions allow visitors to experience a range of outdoor activities including hiking, camping with family and friends, and four-wheel driving.
Wilpena Pound Campground management has put in place several measures to ensure the health and safety of its guests and staff:
• Campsite Allocation: powered campsites will be allocated to allow a vacant site between each booked site. Guests booking powered sites can take a look at the campground map and choose a preferred site before booking online. Unpowered campsites will remain freely allocated, with the minimum four metres required between each campsite boundary
• Guest Numbers: campsite bookings will include a maximum of four campers per site. Larger families or groups will need to book extra sites
• Bookings: are recommended to be made online at www.wilpenapound.com.au in advance of arrival.
• Communal Areas: Guests can pre-book the use of communal areas including barbecue areas on arrival to ensure the required social distancing ratio of one person per four square metres can be met. Guests need to thoroughly clean surfaces and remove rubbish after use.
• Amenities Areas: Hygiene practices are essential in bathrooms, and shower blocks should be used by one ‘household unit’ (maximum four persons), or individuals working to the one person per four square metre ratio. Guests need to thoroughly clean surfaces after use and are encouraged to wear flip-flops or thongs at all times.
• Guest Health Declaration: All guests are required to lodge a Health Declaration on arrival at the campground. The Health Declaration form is available for download and is ideally completed prior to arrival, to be presented on check-in.
Wilpena Pound Resort Director Darren Godwell said he was pleased to be safely reopening the campground to welcome back visitors from around South Australia.
“We hope we will see people setting off on road trips for some fresh air and wide-open spaces, to return to Wilpena Pound or discover it for the first time,” Mr Godwell said.
“While the hotel, restaurant and glamping at Ikara Safari Camp remain closed for now, the new IGA Xpress general store and onsite petrol station are open for our guests and travellers in the region.”
Wilpena Pound Resort is a spectacular natural amphitheatre spanning 17km in length and 7km in width, located around 430km north of Adelaide in the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. It holds important cultural significance for the Indigenous Adnyamathanha people.
