Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, confirmed yesterday that stage 4 restrictions in Metropolitan Melbourne will remain in place for at least another fortnight, with a plan for a 4-stage easing of restrictions on the table, contingent on health advice, commencing on Sunday 13 September and rolling out until the end of November 2020.
“We cannot open up at this time,” Mr Andrews said. “If we were to, we would lose control very, very quickly.”
From 11:59pm AEST, next Sunday, 13 September, the following changes will be implemented in Stage 1 of easing restrictions:
- Easing curfew from 8:00pm to 9:00pm
- Allowing 2 hours of exercise
- Allowing outdoor public gatherings of two people or one household
- Allowing people who live alone, and single parents with children under 18 years, to nominate one visitor to their homes
- Reopening playgrounds
For Victoria to return to anything like a pre-COVID ‘normal’, the Premier has been advised that the State would need to record no new cases for 28 days, no active cases and “no outbreaks of concern” in other states and territories.
