MEETINGS 2022 a success
New Zealand’s business events industry celebrated a successful MEETINGS 2022 last week when over 650 Australian and New Zealand event professionals gathered for a gala dinner at Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre. Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA) Chief Executive, Lisa Hopkins says the MEETINGS 2022 gala event, entitled Flourish, reflected the mood of optimism throughout the industry, and captured the very best New Zealand culinary, entertainment, theming, production and design talent.
“MEETINGS has shown that business events are back, and better than ever, with a strong pipeline of bookings coming from two days packed with appointments. Flourish was a fitting finale for what has been a highly productive and inspiring two days of meetings, networking, learning and doing business together,” Lisa Hopkins said.
“This was a well-earned time to reflect and celebrate with our industry peers, and a spirit evident amongst all our event organisers hosted from around New Zealand and Australia, and our incredible team of over 200 exhibitors.
“MEETINGS has also been a triumph for New Zealand’s and Christchurch’s business events hosting capabilities. It leaves everyone in awe of our world-class venues and services in a bucket-list destination. Hosting its first major international exhibition, Te Pae Christchurch has come through with flying colours,” Lisa Hopkins added.

MCEC welcomes back Oz Comic-Con Melbourne
Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) is thrilled to welcome Oz Comic Con back to the venue this weekend, with the return of international guests at their first full scale Melbourne event since 2019. Alongside the return of international guests, Oz Comic-Con is also welcoming back the most prestigious cosplay contest in Australia, the Australian Championships of Cosplay, highlighting the immense talent and craftsmanship from all around the country.
Oz Comic-Con will be held in conjunction with Animaga, a celebration of anime, manga, games, and Japanese culture. Activities at Animaga will include an anime cosplay competition, Animaga Idol, the Animaga Arcade, Maid Cafe and more. Oz Comic-Con will also welcome back visitor favourites like Artists Alley, Cosplay Central, TableTop Gaming and the country’s top comic artists who draw for the biggest franchises in the world; Marvel, DC, The Simpsons and more.
Christchurch to host 2024 Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Congress
The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) has chosen Ōtautahi Christchurch for its Annual Scientific Congress to be held in May 2024 at Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre. The Congress is the largest meeting of surgeons and allied health professionals in the Southern Hemisphere. Over 1500 delegates, including 1300 international visitors, will be expected to this major annual educational activity for the College. ChristchurchNZ Business Events successfully bid for the Congress with support from Tourism New Zealand Business Events. ChristchurchNZ Chief Executive, Alison Adams says the RACS Congress will be a significant and prestigious event for the city.
