With mass protests across the USA, and over 40 cities dealing with protesters, the National Guard, curfews and, potentially, military intervention, Memphis Tourism has made the decision to postpone its recovery training webinar scheduled for this Thursday, 4 June 2020.
“A city with civil rights at its core, and the home of the National Civil Rights Museum, Memphis has been rocked by the recent tragedy of George Floyd’s death. Proceeding with the training would not be appropriate at this time,” said Australian and NZ Director Chris Ingram.
The significance of current anti-racism riots is particularly poignant for Memphis, a city that has played an integral role in the US Civil Rights Movement. Through its ongoing recognition and commemoration of the Movement’s hardships, struggles, and triumphs via historical landmarks around the city and through the National Civil Rights Museum, Memphis has continually worked to provide reflective exhibitions, events, and memorials.
A new date for the training is yet to be announced.
