Expect to see more stories on the Maldives emerging in the Aussie media in the coming months, following the last week’s visit by a team of writers from Escape, Traveller, marie claire, WHO magazine and The West Australian.
Guests of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the nation’s tourism body, this most recent visit was the 15th such group to arrive in the Maldives as part of a series of international familiarisation trips organised by MMPRC.
The purpose of the trip was to create awareness of the Maldives as a travel destination amongst Australians, feature the main products of the Maldives and highlight the country’s sustainable tourism initiatives.
The group spent a week in the Maldives experiencing everything from guesthouses in the local islands, to five-star luxury resorts, and life on the ocean on liveaboards, including Ta local guest house provided by Secret Paradise, two vessels provided by Yacht Maldives and over water bungalows provided by Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa.
Based on the tourist arrival figures this year, Australia is ranked as the 10th source market for the Maldives with a market share of 2.3%. Through the series of international familiarisation trips, MMPRC hopes to reach wider audiences in these markets to promote the Maldives.
