DCF Property Group has officially broken ground on its highly anticipated First Light development, a $180 million project set to reshape Melbourne’s Domain Precinct with a blend of luxury residences and hotel accommodations. The ceremony signals the start of construction on this transformative venture, which aims to redefine Melbourne’s skyline while contributing substantial economic benefits to Victoria.
A New Chapter in Luxury Hospitality
One of the highlights of First Light is Nu By YOO, a luxury hotel conceptualised in collaboration with La Vie Hotels and Resorts and the internationally acclaimed design studio Yoo, co-founded by renowned designer Philippe Starck and property entrepreneur John Hitchcox. Nu By YOO Melbourne will feature 97 luxury rooms and a signature Food and Beverage partner, making it a standout destination within Australia’s competitive hotel market.
Jerry Xu, CEO of La Vie Hotels and Resorts, expressed excitement over the project’s design-forward approach: “Nu By Yoo Melbourne is not just another hotel; it’s a fresh chapter in luxury design and hotel experience in Australia’s most vibrant city.” The hotel will reflect Melbourne’s unique character, creating a space that combines modern luxury with the city’s signature energy.
Prime Location and Exceptional Design
Strategically positioned across from Melbourne’s Botanical Gardens and within walking distance of the CBD, the First Light development offers an enviable location for residents and visitors. Chris Batterham, Chief Development Officer for La Vie Hotels and Resorts, highlighted the vision behind Nu By YOO: “We are not just building a hotel but a symbol of what the future of hospitality can be—innovative, inspiring, and deeply connected to the places and people it serves.”
Alongside the hotel, First Light will introduce Forest by Yoo, a collection of 131 branded residences, continuing the collaboration between La Vie Hotels and Yoo Studio. This aligns with La Vie’s other luxury projects, including the YOO2 Hotel in Patong, Phuket, as part of its expanding portfolio in Asia-Pacific.
First Light is slated for completion in October 2026, with Nu By YOO Melbourne expected to open shortly thereafter. With a focus on design, innovation, and location, the development will offer a new standard in Melbourne’s residential and hospitality landscape, supporting Victoria’s tourism and economic growth over the coming years.
