Intrepid Travel has become the first tour operator to offer a never-before-seen section on the famed Quarry Trail in the Andes Mountain region of Peru. Known as an off-the-beaten-path alternative to the Inca Trail, the Quarry Trail has gained recognition over the past few years, culminating at the iconic Machu Picchu, a testament to the ancient Incan Empire’s grandeur. Now, with a collaboration with a local Peruvian community, Intrepid Travel introduces a new dimension to this extraordinary trail.
Spanning 26 kilometres, the Quarry Trail commences in the charming town of Ollantaytambo and winds its way through the majestic peaks and picturesque villages of the Sacred Valley. However, thanks to the collaboration between Intrepid Travel and the local community, an unseen section of the trail has been unveiled, adding an unparalleled sense of discovery to the experience.
Starting from 2024, Intrepid’s Peru itineraries will feature the four-day Quarry Trail experience, which begins with an invigorating 15-minute climb to Qory Sonq´o hill. At the summit, travellers will be treated to breathtaking views of three valleys – Soqma Perolniyoc, Pachar, and Huarocondo – offering a mesmerizing panorama that captures the essence of the Andes. Here, they will also have the opportunity to explore ancient skeletal remains and original tomb structures that date back centuries, providing a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich history.
Intrepid Travel’s commitment to responsible tourism development is further exemplified by their pledge to make a donation to the surrounding community for every traveller booked on the Quarry Trail. This donation will support ongoing efforts to preserve and protect this sacred area, ensuring its longevity for future generations to cherish.
