MoneySuperMarket has analysed its own, and Gov.uk, data and found Australia to be the most risky place for English tourists to head for a holiday. The study was conducted with 2,000 British respondents, to determine their attitudes towards purchasing travel insurance, including the countries where they are more likely to take a risk and go without it, and the key reasons why.
The results showed that:
For every 100,000 Brits visiting Australia, 1220.16 lose or have their passport stolen. This is more than Morocco (15.87), Bulgaria (47.83) and Poland (414.08) combined.
Australia ranked third highest for thefts per 100,000 visits (3.45), just behind Jamaica (5.65) and Egypt (4.16).
Hospitalisations in Australia were 34.52 per 100,000 visits, third behind Egypt with 44.77 and China with 101.36.
Thankfully, Australia’s timely flights – only 15% have over a 15-minute delay, 4th best in the study – and with only a 4% chance of local disaster – are redeeming qualities for those still keen to head downunder.
