Following announcements by the Queensland Government to charge citizens and residents returning from overseas for their mandatory 14-day hotel quarantine, the NSW Government has announced that it will charge all international travellers for their hotel quarantine accommodation in Sydney from 12:01am AEST Saturday, 18 July 2020. The NSW Government will invoice all international passengers a fixed fee, which includes meals and hotel room costs, at the end of their stay. Travellers may not choose their own hotel.
Travellers who purchased their flights before 11:59pm AEST 12 July 2020 are excluded from quarantine fees. These travellers will still be required to quarantine in government arranged accommodation. Conditions apply, and travellers must provide proof of their booking date to NSW Government on arrival at the hotel.
The hotel quarantine fee is a fixed cost of $3,000 for one adult; additional occupants can be added as follows:
- Additional adults: $1000 each
- Additional children: $500 each
- Child under 3: no additional cost
At the end of quarantine, travellers will receive an invoice to pay the NSW Government within 30 days.
People already in hotel quarantine will not be charged. The change is not retrospective.
