Hawaiian Airlines is taking to the skies with a splash of Polynesian adventure, unveiling the first of three custom “Moana 2” aircraft designs to celebrate the upcoming release of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Moana 2, hitting cinemas on November 27.
This first “Moana 2”-themed Airbus A330 showcases beloved characters like Moana, Maui, and the mischievous Kakamora, welcoming guests with a “Welcome Voyagers” message that captures the spirit of exploration.
A Journey of Culture and Connection
Hawaiian Airlines’ Director of Brand and Culture, Alisa Onishi, shared the airline’s excitement about the collaboration: “As modern-day voyagers, we pride ourselves in sharing our host culture and ensuring our guests are immersed in unparalleled comfort and breathtaking discovery as they travel with us across the Pacific Ocean.” Following a successful collaboration for the original Moana film, Hawaiian is thrilled to reintroduce characters from Moana 2 to travellers flying between Hawaiʻi and destinations in Asia, Oceania, the U.S. continent, and within the Hawaiian Islands.
Expanding the Fleet with Moana’s Spirit
Next month, Hawaiian Airlines will reveal two additional Moana 2 designs on an Airbus A321neo, serving select U.S. markets and the Cook Islands, and a Boeing 717 that will operate inter-island routes in Hawaiʻi. Each aircraft is decorated inside and out, with overhead luggage bins on all three aircraft featuring custom artwork from the film. Guests can immerse themselves even further with a custom AR experience that will debut alongside the second aircraft reveal. These themed aircraft will connect the islands to destinations like American Samoa, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Tahiti until March 2025.
A “Moana 2” Adventure Sweepstakes
In conjunction with the “Moana 2” launch, Hawaiian Airlines has also introduced the “Navigate Your Own Adventure” sweepstakes, offering travellers from the United States, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea a chance to win 500,000 HawaiianMiles. Five winners—one from each region—will be selected, with entries open through November 30.
Honouring the Voyaging Spirit with Special Aircraft Names
Each aircraft in the Moana 2 series carries a name that celebrates traditional Polynesian navigation:
- Hōkūleʻa / Airbus A330: Named for Arcturus, Hawaiʻi’s zenith star, as well as the famed Hawaiian voyaging canoe.
- Koa / Airbus A321neo: Named after acacia koa, the preferred wood for Polynesian canoes.
- ʻElepaio / Boeing 717: Named after the Native Hawaiian bird known as the guardian of canoe builders.
With this latest collaboration, Hawaiian Airlines honours Polynesian voyaging heritage and invites guests worldwide to join Moana, Maui, and friends on a journey of discovery and connection across the Pacific.
