UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has announced that England will enter a second lockdown period, effective Thursday 5 November 2020 [local time), to prevent a “medical and moral disaster” for the National Health Service (NHS).
Apologising for the disruption and inconvenience, Prime Minister Johnson said no responsible Prime Minister could ignore the spike in figures, with reporting of several thousand confirmed new cases daily and a “peak of mortality” worse than that experienced in April 2020.
A fresh wave of the pandemic is currently gripping most of Europe.
Ireland, Wales and Scotland each make independent decisions regarding the pandemic and the new lockdown is applicable at this stage to the whole of England only.
