Following two weeks of protests against austerity measures proposed by the government, Eclipse Travel has advised that the situation on the ground in Quito, the Ecuador capital, is starting to return to normal.
The protests had caused some tours to be cancelled, with a small number of passengers stranded or having to re-book future travel plans to ensure they were kept clear of the trouble.
Eclipse says a deal between the government and Ecuador’s indigenous people was struck on Monday, 14 October 2019, voiding the proposed measures and ending the protests.
“We have been monitoring the situation in Ecuador closely and working in partnership with our local operator to minimise the impact on passengers in destination, and booked to travel in the coming weeks,” says Eclipse Travel’s Tim Farquhar.
“Our travellers’ safety is our priority and we are happy to reassure the travel trade that Ecuador is open for business, and the few passengers who have been affected are now re-booked or have had their initial booking reinstated. We will continue to keep in constant contact with our people on the ground to ensure a smooth transition back to regular operation. Any agents looking for the latest update and advice should talk to our team on 1300 575 752 or enquiry@eclipsetravel.com.au and, as always, refer to DFAT’s SmartTraveller website.”
The official SmartTraveller advice to reconsider your need to travel does not apply to the Galapagos Islands.
