The $35 million redevelopment and rebrand of Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa, which commenced earlier this year, will see the former tourism icon and family resort elevated to a 223-room luxury, JW Marriott hotel by the end of the year.
The property rebrand and the entry of the JW Marriott brand to the Gold Coast will bring a new level of refined and mindful luxury to Queensland’s popular tourism destination. With the JW Marriott brand’s philosophy centred in the principles of mindfulness, guests will encounter a holistic combination of thoughtful design, service and experiences to help them feel fully present, foster connections and feed the soul.
JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa has collaborated with Australian design studio, DBI, the architects and interior designers behind the existing Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa, to transform the iconic property into a luxury resort with elevated status.
Drawing inspiration from both the coastal and hinterland surrounds, DBI has successfully created a serene retreat and nourishing environment that reflects the JW Marriott brand essence, promoting guest mindfulness and connection. The design narrative reflects the beauty and mindful pace of the Gold Coast’s urban beachside living, and flows throughout the property touching public spaces, guestrooms, and food and beverage venues, as well as carrying through to the resort’s famous outdoor lagoon area.
DBI Director, Susan Rossi, who worked on the original design concepts for the property in the lead up to its opening in 1992, has spearheaded the hotel’s revitalisation and rebrand into a JW Marriott.
“The theme of ‘nature’ was central to the hotel’s design when we first worked on the property in the 90s. Revisiting the luxury resort today, we wanted to retain a focus on its striking location and views of the beach and hinterland, as well as respect the hotel’s original fabric in the most sustainable way. We therefore kept these elements core to its redesign, only this time presenting their influence in a more elevated and modern way, and through the refined lens of the JW Marriott brand.” said Rossi.
