ACT Chief Minister, Andrew Barr, has advised the territory’s residents that their current lockdown has been extended to 15 October 2021, to facilitate higher rates of vaccination in the battle against growing Delta outbreaks.
Mr Barr said the territory’s unique location within the state of New South Wales meant it was imperative that the ACT escalated its vaccination rates in line with the Roadmap to Freedom outlined by NSW.
South Australia’s announcement that the state would open its borders to NSW and Victoria once 80 per cent of its population reached full vaccination status was met with derision by WA Premier, Mark McGowan.
Mr McGowan said that South Australia “may regret that decision” adding that Western Australia would close its borders to South Australia if that state was to open up and subsequently have community transmission of the Delta virus.
