Following the Queensland State Government’s announcement of an extension to travel restrictions for interstate visitors earlier this month, Lizard Island Resort has decided to delay its planned re-opening in September 2020, given that 80% of its confirmed bookings would be affected by the new travel restrictions.
The Resort will now open for guests on 14 December 2020 and each of the 250 guests whose bookings will need to be cancelled or, ideally, postponed will be contacted personally by the team at Lizard Island.
Greg Magi, Executive Director of Parks & Resorts for Delaware North, which operates Lizard Island, said he was disappointed to have to inform his team and many guests of the change in plans.
“We were certainly looking forward to re-opening Lizard Island at the end of September. Our team has already been gearing up and we’ve had a great show of support with bookings from domestic travellers – many of them past guests – and especially from the eastern states.
“Lizard Island is very fortunate to have a very long and loyal following from our Queensland guests, however at the moment intrastate travel alone isn’t enough to make opening the resort a viable option.
“We hope many guests will be patient in the current circumstances and choose to postpone their stay on Lizard Island for summer and beyond, when an escape to an idyllic Queensland island will be needed more than ever.”
