Madrid named world’s top meetings and conference destination
Madrid was named the World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination at the 26th edition of the World Travel Awards 2019 (WTA). Madrid was nominated in two categories: “World’s Leading Business Travel Destination 2019” and “World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination 2019”. Madrid beat Las Vegas, ending the city’s six-edition winning streak, and ten other competitors including Paris, Dubai, Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi.
Rwanda a top pick for MICE in Africa
Rwanda’s MICE tourism sector has continued to grow in 2019, with new luxury offerings boosting the appeal as a MICE destination. The iconic Kigali Convention Centre (KCC) is the premium events venue in Rwanda since its opening in 2016. With an increasing number of high-profile events being hosted at the KCC, the venue has consolidated its place on the map of world-class conference destinations. 10 new Australian openings for 2020 revealed
Business event planners will have even more options to choose from in Australia with a raft of new hotels and venues opening next year. Tourism Australia Executive General Manager Events, Penny Lion, said “a new era of infrastructure development is underway in Australia and next year we will welcome new accommodation and event spaces that give international event planners even more options for their business events.” Penny Lion added that the range of venues combined with welcoming people, expertise in event delivery as well as great international aviation access meant there is really nothing like Australia for business events. Uganda Tourism Board announces POATE 2020
The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is set to host the 5th annual Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2020 from 4 – 6 February 2020 at the Speke Resort in Munyonyo. The tourism and travel trade exhibition brings together regional and international tour operators, travel agents, destination agencies, and various players in the tourism trade to network and facilitate tourism business. UTB CEO Lilly Ajarova, said that POATE is one of the key strategies for the promotion of Uganda’s tourism in the region and across the world. The expo facilitates key linkages through hosted buyers between tourists and domestic tour operators. Furthermore, it allows Uganda to showcase directly to various groups of hosted buyers who play a key role in the increment of visitor arrivals. The event will constitute seminars and workshops, B2B meetings, and conferences while the last day will be open to the public for B2C engagements between the public and attending exhibitors and hosted buyers.
