Following the worst bushfire season in the country’s history, Australia has picked up a new Community Restoration Award in Lonely Planet’s annual Best In Travel Awards.
Traditionally Lonely Planet’s Best In Travel annual list has been focused on the top 10 countries, regions and cities. This year they have taken a new approach and are focusing their efforts on the idea of improving the entire concept of travel.
Lonely Planet has singled Australia out for the award in recognition for the recovery efforts made following the devastating bushfires, specifically calling out the work to rebuild communities for affected Australians and the conservation work to preserve Australia’s unique wildlife.
Our rainforests, sapphire coasts and endemic wildlife of Australia are slowly rising from the ashes thanks to a number of community restoration efforts, and Aussies can continue to help the restoration by booking a holiday to an affected area, including Kangaroo Island, Adelaide Hills, Gippsland, South Coast and the Blue Mountains.
