Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, performed a big switcheroo yesterday, beginning the day with no budging on lockdown, and ending the day by lifting most lockdown restrictions from 11:59pm AEDT Tuesday 27 October 2020.
In essence, from tomorrow morning, Melbourne’s lockdown will be over. Some restrictions will be rolled back on Wednesday, with further easing of restrictions coming into effect on Sunday 8 November 2020.
However, Melburnians will still be required to wear approve face masks when they are out of their homes.
“Masks are incredibly important. Difficult, you know, not particularly pleasant, but for a very low cost we get potentially a very, very high benefit”, Premier Andrews said yesterday.
“That’s why we’re going to persist with those for a while. We’re not quite sure how long.
“It may be that the settings change, potentially, but masks are going to be, particularly when you’re going to be proximate with other people, a feature. It is a very low cost for a very big gain.”
The Premier is still urging people to work from home, with an announcement on returning to offices expected on 8 November 2020.
“We’ll get people back into offices as quickly as we can and as safely as we can,” he said.
“It won’t be everyone going in at once, de facto crowds, 20, 30, 40 people all jammed in close for hours on end. We have to be cautious about that.”
